Prof. Moshe Papa

Healthcare Advisor

A surgeon and healthcare administrator, Moshe specializes in founding and operating healthcare initiatives for wide community benefit. His expertise in hospital management, public health policy and outreach has had broad impact on the populations he supports. Of note in Moshe’s repertoire are the development and implementation of advanced surgical/surgical oncology centers, healthcare insurance initiatives and innovative medical technology services.

Most recently, Moshe served as the Head of the Department of Surgery and Surgical Oncology and the Laboratory for Genetic Applications in Surgery at Sheba Medical Center, one of the top healthcare institutions in Israel. Moshe spent his earlier professional career in surgical oncology at Sheba and on the staff at Mt. Sinai Hospital in the US.

Moshe invests great effort in community education, promoting cancer screening and treatment quality. He serves on governmental advisory committees in oncology, surgery and the application of technology in medicine.

As a basic and clinical investigator, Moshe has published over 120 articles in prominent peer-reviewed journals worldwide. His major clinical and basic research interest lies in the development of new technologies to treat cancer, such as applying new non-invasive surgical modalities, intra-operative radiation, pre-surgical chemotherapy and the genetics of breast and colon cancer.

Education

Moshe completed his medical studies at Tel Aviv University Medical School, graduating magna cum laude, including an internship at Beth Israel Hospital, which is affiliated with Harvard Medical School. He trained as a surgeon at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and served as a surgical staff fellow at the National Cancer Institute, part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). Moshe completed a clinical fellowship in surgical oncology and continued his training in surgery and colorectal surgery at the University of Toronto. He was appointed Professor of Surgery at the Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University.
